Description
Cucurbita maxima
HEIRLOOM. Not to be confused with the North Georgia Candy Roaster, the NC Candy Roaster is a large and beautiful Appalachian heirloom with a superb taste, living up to its name. It grows vines with large leaves and matures lovely pinkish-orange, buttercup-shaped fruits of variable size with blue-green markings. Each vine produces one to two fruits ranging from 5 to 25 lbs. The warmth brings out its sweetness, and it does not reach full flavor potential in the cool summers of northern climates.
Small Farmer Grown by Peter Brezny, Psyco Chicken Eco Farm in Asheville, NC . Peter is a member of the Appalachian Seed Growers Collective. A portion of proceeds from each packet benefits the Collective’s efforts to increase seed production capacity in Southern Appalachia and breed varieties that thrive in our region.
