Description

Flies don’t take days off — and neither does the Solar Fly Trap. Powered entirely by the sun, this heavy-duty trap works silently around the clock, luring and eliminating flies across up to 2,500 sq. ft. without chemicals, cords, or constant attention. Whether you’re managing a horse barn, a backyard garden, or a full-scale dairy, this is the kind of set-it-and-forget-it fly control that actually delivers.

Why the Solar Fly Trap

Most fly traps rely on sticky surfaces, electric grids, or chemical attractants that need frequent replacement and can pose risks around animals and food. The Solar Fly Trap takes a different approach: it harnesses natural solar heat to dehydrate and eliminate flies inside a sealed confinement chamber, using a simple yeast-based bait that flies can’t resist. No power outlet. No pesticides. No complicated setup.

Built from rust-free, heavy-duty aluminum, this trap is engineered to hold up season after season in the toughest outdoor environments — from sun-baked feedlots to humid poultry houses. It’s the kind of tool that earns its place on the property and stays there.

Key Benefits

  • 100% Chemical-Free: Eliminates flies using solar heat and yeast bait — safe around livestock, pets, and produce.
  • Solar-Powered: No electricity needed; the sun does the work, making it ideal for remote barns, pastures, and gardens.
  • Wide Coverage Area: Each trap attracts flies from approximately 2,500 sq. ft., reducing pressure across large spaces.
  • Heavy-Duty Construction: Rust-free aluminum frame stands up to outdoor conditions year-round without degrading.
  • Easy to Reset: When full, simply empty, rinse, and reload with fresh bait — no tools required.
  • Includes Starter Bait: Comes with one packet of yeast-based bait, enough for approximately 5 weeks of fly control.

Use Cases

  • Horse Barns & Stables: Hang near stall entrances or manure storage to dramatically cut fly pressure on horses and handlers.
  • Dairies & Feedlots: Deploy multiple traps around high-traffic areas to manage large fly populations without chemical programs.
  • Poultry & Swine Facilities: Place along fence lines or near feed areas where flies breed and congregate.
  • Kennels & Pet Areas: Keep fly counts low in outdoor dog runs and kennels without exposing animals to pesticides.
  • Backyard Gardens & Compost Areas: Protect garden beds and compost bins from fly infestations during warm months.
  • Waste Treatment & Organic Operations: Ideal for high-pressure environments where fly breeding is constant and chemical use is restricted.

Directions for Use

  • Mix the included yeast-based bait packet with water according to package instructions and pour into the base of the trap.
  • Place the trap in a location that receives morning sun and afternoon shade for optimal solar heating and fly dehydration.
  • Position the trap near known fly breeding sites — manure piles, compost, feed storage — but not directly on top of them.
  • Allow 24–48 hours for flies to begin entering the trap as the bait activates.
  • When the trap is full, empty the contents, rinse with a hose, reload with fresh bait, and return to position.
  • Reposition the trap as fly pressure shifts throughout the season for maximum effectiveness.

What Growers Are Saying

“We run a 40-horse boarding facility and fly control has always been a battle. After setting up three Solar Fly Traps around the barn, we saw a noticeable drop in fly pressure within the first week. Our clients have commented on it. Worth every penny.”

— Marcus T., Horse Boarding Facility Owner

“I was skeptical that something this simple could work, but the yeast bait pulls flies in fast. I empty it every couple of weeks during peak summer. No chemicals near my vegetable garden — that was the big selling point for me.”

— Diane R., Backyard Gardener & Homesteader

“We manage a small poultry operation and have tried everything. The Solar Fly Trap is now a permanent part of our fly control program alongside Fly Eliminators. The aluminum construction is solid — we’ve had ours going on three seasons now.”

— Kevin S., Small-Scale Poultry Farmer

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I mix the bait?
Pour yeast and catalyst (small plastic bag in yeast) into a gallon jug. Fill jug halfway with water and shake vigorously. Add water until the jug is filled to one inch below full. Place cap on jug loosely. Allow bait to ferment for up to seven days before adding to the Solar Fly Trap.

Can I use my own bait?
Yes! You can make your own bait if you have a preferred recipe. Our customers recommend missing a beer and egg and letting that sit for a few hours to a day to ferment.

Where should I place the trap?
Since the Solar Fly Trap uses a yeast bait to attract the flies, you want to place it AWAY from the areas where human/animals are near (porches, garages, etc). The bait is known to have a strong smell, so you will want to place it away from windows. We recommend near the fenceline or near a compost pile. If you place it in the open, it risks blowing away if the bait dries on a windy day. Some customers screw/nail the trap to a piece of wood.

My trap got bent out of shape. Do I need to replace it?
In order for the trap to keep the flies in, the trap lid needs a secure fit. The aluminum trap may accommodate bending parts of the trap back into place. If needed, replacement bowls and lids are available.

How long does it take to start catching flies?
Most users see flies entering the trap within 24–48 hours of setup. Results can vary based on local fly pressure, placement, and weather conditions.

How often do I need to replace the bait?
The included bait packet lasts approximately 5 weeks. Replacement bait packets are available separately. Refresh sooner if the trap fills quickly or bait loses its potency.

Is this safe to use around horses, livestock, and pets?
Yes. The Solar Fly Trap uses no pesticides or chemicals — only yeast-based bait and solar heat. It is safe to use in and around animal housing areas.

How many traps do I need?
Each trap covers approximately 2,500 sq. ft. High-pressure environments like dairies, poultry farms, or waste facilities may require multiple traps depending on fly population and proximity to breeding sites.

Does it work in cloudy or cold weather?
The trap relies on solar heat to dehydrate flies, so performance is reduced on overcast or cool days. It works best during warm, sunny months — which also happen to be peak fly season.

Can I use this indoors or in a covered barn?
The trap requires direct sunlight to function properly. For shaded or indoor environments, consider pairing it with other fly control methods such as Fly Eliminators or sticky traps.
